According to a Facebook post by Senator Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, Ugwu was shot by policemen as he and his cousin emerged from the bush following the cousin’s release. A senior lawyer, speaking anonymously, confirmed that Ugwu had successfully delivered the ransom and was leaving with his cousin when they were fired upon by law enforcement.
