The Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, has intensified the state’s security offensive against banditry as coordinated military forest-clearance operations continue across identified flashpoints.
According to the government, the ongoing operations are recording measurable progress, with security forces sustaining pressure on criminal elements operating within forest corridors.
In a move to consolidate gains, Governor Oyebanji is engaging the Office of the National Security Adviser to secure air support aimed at strengthening surveillance and accelerating the clearance operations.
The governor also called on community heads and traditional rulers to heighten vigilance against the infiltration of suspicious persons into their domains.
He urged prompt reporting of unusual movements to security agencies and issued a firm warning against any form of collaboration or connivance with criminal groups.
Emphasizing that security is a shared responsibility, Oyebanji noted that lasting peace would depend on sincere cooperation among communities, local stakeholders, and security agencies, particularly through timely intelligence sharing and coordinated action.
He expressed appreciation to the Special Adviser on Security Matters, the Commanding Officer of the 148 Battalion, the Commissioner of Police, the State Director of the Department of State Services, as well as other security agencies and local vigilante groups, commending their dedication and professionalism.
As part of efforts to curb cross-border criminal activities, the governor is also holding strategic meetings with Local Government Chairmen in border communities adjoining neighbouring states to strengthen inter-state security coordination.
State officials say the administration remains committed to sustaining the offensive until criminal networks are dismantled and peace is fully restored across Ekiti.
