NYSC: A veritable tool for massive social change – Govnr. Oyebanji

The Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has reiterated the need for corps members, particularly those serving in the state, to be more security conscious during their service year.

The Governor made the submission during the closing ceremony of the orientation course for the Batch ‘A’ STREAM 11 at orientation camp Ise-Orun-Emure Ekiti on Tuesday.

The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abibat Adubiaro noted that his wish was to see all corps members to return back to their parents and various homes safe and sound after their programme in the state.

The Governor who expressed joy to the corps members despite all the odds and appreciated the pivotal roles and socioeconomic impact of the NYSC on our nation since 1973.

According to Governor Oyebanji, “the scheme have lived up to its biddings in various aspects of our national life.”

Governor who said that as a leveller, it has created balance among the multi-ethnics groups in Nigeria and fostered the cord of brotherhood and unity on our nation despite differences in culture, customs, religion and norms.

He also gave kudos to the scheme for the lofty idea and implementation of the skills Aquisition and entrepreneurship development (SAED) programmes which has stirred and solidified the spirit of entrepreneurship in Nigeria youths and consequentially reduced the dependence on White-collar jobs.

The governor Oyebanji congratulated the scheme of the commemoration of her golden jubilee ”I said congratulations to a scheme that I am greatly proud of, he said”.

Governor Oyebanji who assured the corps members that his administration will continue to support the scheme to be more responsive in the discharge of her duties for national stability.

The governor advised the Corps Members that it is evident that rendering of loyal, patriotic and selfless service to the fatherland is not alien to the NYSC as your predecessors have contributed Immensely to the development and sustenance of unity and economic viability of our great nation and also,our beloved state.

The governor stressed further that apart from the corporate goals of the NYSC which would have been greatly achieved over the years, the scheme has also been discovered to be a veritable tool for massive social change.

He advised that they should channel their youthful energy towards grassroots sensitisation, mobilization, awareness and execution of various Governments programmes such as SDG’s advocacy project, malaria eradication, Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) etc

The governor assured all the corps members posted to Ekiti State of utmost security.

“Ekiti State is a peaceful state where you sleep with your two eyes closed and also warned and remind them that security is a collective responsibility”

Earlier, the NYSC Ekiti State Coordinator Mrs Mary Nenna Chikezie in her keynote address appreciated the state government for the support at all time.

He advised the corps members to be of good conduct and also make the NYSC proud

Mrs. Nenna noted that having fully undergone so many training,it is hoped that the corps members have been fully equipped to move into every nook and cranny of the State, putting into practice what they have learned, she said.

The NYSC coordinator reminded the corps members that NYSC programme is a privileged and not a right, therefore they are all expected to abide by the rules and regulations of the scheme.
