It was fun, excitement at it’s best in the capital city of Ekiti State, Ado-Ekiti to be precise on Wednesday as the state-owned female team, Ekiti Queens Football Club kicked off their Day one of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) season with a thrilling 1-0 victory over their visitor, the Heartland Queens FC from Owerri in Imo State, held at the popular Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado-Ekiti.
Football enthusiasts from the nooks and crannies of the state came out in their large number to show solidarity support to the BAORESS Babes.
In release made available to TopNews Ado-Ekiti by the Media Officer of Ekiti Queens FC, comrade Demola Atobaba said, the intense game which lived to the expectations of spectators kept fans on the edge of their seats for the full 90+ minutes as the home team delivered an impressive performance during the hot but brilliant encounter.
The decisive moment came in the second half when Olaleye Odunayo who came in as substitute scored the only goal, sealing the win for Ekiti Queens FC.
This strong start sets a positive tone for Ekiti Queens, and the team will aim to build on this momentum for the rest of the season.
Going forward, Ekiti Queens FC will be visiting Ikene Remo town in Ogun State to face Remo Star Ladies for yet another tough engagement next week Wednesday 22nd January, 2025. But looking forward as the season progresses, fans should be expecting even more excitement and entertaining outings from participating clubs as they continue to battle for supremacy in the new season of NWFL Premiership.
