In less than two weeks, operatives of the Peace Corps Nigeria (PCN), Ekiti State Command, has again apprehended another suspected burglars who have been allegedly terrorizing Oke-Ila and Housing Estate along Ado/Afao Road, the state capital.
The two suspects named Taofeek 26-year-old, and one Olaniya 25-year-old are natives of Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State. Taofeek who is serial burglar was caught in the act as a result of hints by the passersby who notice the suspects were making effort to sell a stolen iron rod belonging to a whether in Oke-Ila area of Ado-Ekiti.
They confessed to the Peace Corps Officials that they have made several attempts to cart away iron rods, electrical wires cable and other valuables from the neighbours around the Area.
Both Taofeek and are residents of Oke-Ila in Ado-Ekiti was said to have been instrumental to many burgled incidents in the area and thereby been in possession of some illegal properties which had fuelled suspicion that the accused may have been an agent to those who buying stolen goods in Ado-Ekiti.
But they eventually met their waterloo with the alleged of been the same person who burgled many houses and carted away generating sets, air conditioners, gas cylinders, to mention but a few.
Confirming the development in an exclusive interview with TopNews in Ado-Ekiti, the Commandant of Peace Corps of Nigeria, Ekiti State Command, Patriot Mathew Okotie alleged that the two suspects have been terrorizing the community for a while before they were caught by his officers of the command.
According to him, the accused was said to have successfully burgled many houses in the axis and it’s environ before luck ran against them.
Investigations by TopNews revealed that Taofeek and Olaiya was arrested as a result of the strategies plans that the command put in place.
“We work on some vital informations of their activities which has to do with stolen of properties and we laid an ambush for them and we eventually got them arrested. This was part of our neighborhood plans and various efforts by the Corps to apprehend criminals and to also ensure the security of lives and properties of Ekiti people”.
He said they were more than that in numbers who are operating in the community, but some of them escaped, adding that people should say something anytime they see something and that landlords should not harbour criminals in their houses.
Okotie further disclosed that the two suspects has been handed over to the security agents for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.
Taofeek who confessed that he burgled the place because he wanted to celebrate his only son’s birthday on Friday, and that it is true he is deeply involved in stealing and he usually gained access to the place to steal the iron rods around 5:00am of Thursday alongside his other friends who had flee.
