A veteran journalist in Ekiti State, Adijat Bimbo Yusuf, has appealed to the state government for urgent intervention following severe flood damage to her building and fence at Basiri area of Ado Ekiti.

Yusuf, who resides at 2nd Avenue, Aseye Quarters, behind Courage Hotel, Nova Road, Basiri, said recent heavy rainfall caused flood to overflow its boundary and enter her premises.

In an appeal letter made available to TopNews in Ado-Ekiti and addressed to the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Green Economy and Ecological Matters, she said part of her fence had collapsed while the foundation of her building is now threatened.

“The rain of recent falls had caused extensive damages to part of my fence. The flood had overflown its boundary and had entered my premises threatening the foundation and safety of my households,” Yusuf wrote.

She said the incident has made the area prone to further damage and insecurity, adding that efforts made by her and her children to control the situation have not yielded results.

The journalist appealed for intervention through relevant agencies including Ecological Control and Emergency Management, calling for construction of drainages and culverts in the area.

She cited similar interventions done beside Trade Fair Complex, Old Iyin Road, and in front of the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, as examples of what government can replicate in her area.

“I humbly appeal for urgent intervention and inspection of the affected areas to examine the levels of damages done. Save my soul to avoid my building from collapse because of ecological problem,” she added.
