A Professor of Pharmaco-Economics and Social Pharmacy, Sulaiman Ayinla has charged pharmacists to embrace continued knowledge and expertise to remain relevant in the health system of the country.
Professor Ayinla gave the charge at the commemoration of the 2026 World Pharmacists Day held in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
Ayinla who was also the guest lecturer at the celebration called on government and policy makers to integrate pharmacists into primary healthcare, public health and acknowledge their contributions with commensurate remuneration.
Also speaking, the Ekiti state chairman of the body, Pharmacist Martins Alutundu in his remarks noted that the occasion was to sensitize the public on the importance of pharmacists in the administration of drugs.
Other personalities who spoke with Topnews at the event includes a permanent secretary in the state, Pharmacist Olubunmi Ejimokun and another retired permanent secretary, Pharmacist Oluwasanmi Ajoke in their separate remarks called for collective collaboration among members and relevant institutions to transform the profession, with an emphasis that individuals also have roles to in maintaining good health so as to have a safer and clean environment.
The World Pharmacists Day is commemorated on 25th September to acknowledge the roles of pharmacists in the wellness of the people as it was also designed to celebrate the contributions of pharmacists to healthcare delivery and promote their role in building healthier communities.
Earlier, the body used the occasion as part of the media engagement was used to provide an opportunity for pharmacists to educate the public on their roles, responsibilities and contributions to healthcare.
The activities was climaxed with robust interactive sections, award presentation to deserving members, lectures, panel discussion, funfare, quiz competition, varieties and networking, provided an avenue for pharmacists, healthcare professionals, stakeholders and members of the public learn and celebrate the profession, was held at the Nurses’ Cooperative Event Centre, along Afao Road in Ado-Ekiti.
In attendance at the event were pharmacists, healthcare professionals, students, stakeholders and members of the public. All joined in the celebration as they recognised the immense contributions of pharmacists to pharmacy, leadership, service and healthcare delivery at large.
The event was highly supported by different sponsors including Aromokeye, Fidson, Aquatix and AanuOluwa Pharmacy, among other stakeholders in the state. It was indeed a celebration of excellence, leadership, service and health.
