The Ekiti State University football team has emerged the winner of the MOB UNITY CUP Championship in Irepodun Ifelodun Local Government Council of Ekiti State in the male category of the annual competition.
The team known as EKSU GALATICOS defeated Samba Football Club 2 goals to nothing in the final match played in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
According to a press statement made available to TopNews in Ado-Ekiti by the chairman Media committee of the championship, Mr Toyin Ayoola said, despite the defeat, both Samba FC and EKSU Galaticos will play in the finals of the championship alongside eight other teams from the remaining four Local Government councils that made up the Ekiti Central Senatorial District.
In the other Local Government preliminary matches, Isaja FC emerged the winner of Efon Local government after beating Obalu FC 5-4 through penalty shoot out as the two teams had played a goaless draw during regulation time.
The winner in Ekiti West local government was decided through a round robin contest as Alara football club top the group while MOM FC was the first runners up.
In Ijero Local Government, Wisdom Football Club defeated Ijero United 4-1 through penalty shoot out.Both teams played a one all draw during regulation time. The final match in Ado Local Government saw LEO football club emerged victorious.
LEO FC defeated Delight football club 5-4 through penalty shoot out in the final match. The tension soaked encounter saw the two teams played a goaless draw during regulation time.
In the female category, Golden FC emerged the winner in Ado local government after beating Delight Queens in the final match played in Ado.
Best L Queens defeated Wisdom Queens 4-0 to emerged the winner of both Efon and Ekiti West combined together while Ajakaye Babes walloped VOA Queens 3-1 to clinch the top spot in Irepodun Ifelodun local government.
Meanwhile all the winners, the second and third place teams have been presented with cash award both in male and female categories.
While the top teams got two hundred thousand naira each, the second place teams got one hundred and fifty thousand naira as third place teams received one hundred thousand naira each.
The organizing committee of the championship will soon come out with details of the finals which may likely come up in January.
The MOB UNITY CUP is sponsored by Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District in the Red chamber.
The championship is put together to fish out hidden talents and to support Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s drive to develop grassroots sports in Ekiti State.
