Two farmers were abducted by some gunmen on Monday evening in Ikere-Ekiti in Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
Newsflash Nigeria reports that the farmers were coming on their farms along the Ado- Ikere-Akure road in Ikere Ekiti when they were attacked by armed men.
The victims have been identified as Mr. Ojo Tope, also known as Bako, who works for the Ekiti State government, and Mr. Smart, a car wash owner in the town.
They were taken away by the kidnappers about 200 meters from a military checkpoint in Atoka Area along Ikere-Iju road in Ikere.
This is the second kidnapping case involving farmers in Ekiti State in a week.
Last week, a farmer named Mathew Ojo was kidnapped while working on his rice farm along Ikere – Ise – Emure road. His kidnappers have demanded N20 million ransom for his release.
The police have not yet confirmed the latest incident, and the kidnappers have contacted the families of the victims.
According to a source close to the families, the suspected kidnappers have demanded N10 million each for their release.
The residents of the area are living in fear and insecurity as the gunmen continue to terrorize them.
