Jubilations in Ekiti as NUT Elect Egbeyemi as New Chairman

…Hail Governor Oyebanji giant strides in education

It was an exciting moment as songs of victory rented the air in Ekiti State as the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ekiti State Wing elected another set of new executives that will pilot the affairs of the union for the next four years.

The unique event of the NUT 7th Quadrennial Conference of Delegates with the theme: “The Expected Goals In Education: Teachers As Key Players”, was held on Tuesday, April 29th at a spacious NUT State Secretariat, Teacher’s House, Old Iyin Road in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

The new Chairman, comrade Lawrence Adedeji Egbeyemi who won the position of the Chairman in a keenly contested election defeated his opponent with massive votes as all contestants of his team won their positions with 14 – 0 against the opponent.

In an official results announced at the end of the 2025 delegates conference, comrade Lawrence Adedeji Egbeyemi emerged as the new State Chairman with 115 votes, alongside other key officials, including, Deputy Chairman, Oyebola Raphael with 115 votes.

Also, the 1st Vice Chairman, Taiwo Boboye scored 115 votes; the 2nd Vice Chairman, Bolaji Rose polled 114 votes; the 3rd Vice Chairman, Ayeni Oluwole scored 116 votes; and the 4th Vice Chairman, Ipinlaye Oyeyemi got 112 votes respectfully.

Other key Officials are the State Treasurer, Dada Clement Ojo; Publicity Secretary, Adeola Joseph Abiodun won with 109 votes; the Social Secretary, Onile Florence Olubunmi had 110 votes and the National Representative, Oguntuase Busuyi Samuel had 109 votes.

While giving his acceptance speech after the inauguration, the new Chairman, Comrade Adedeji Egbeyemi highlighted some of his vision to include transparency, uniting the NUT members and prioritizing the teachers’ welfare across the length and bregth of Ekiti.

He pledged his readiness to with other co-contestants by embracing everyone to achieve greatness. He described teaching profession as the sector depending on to reshape the society for a better tomorrow.

Egbeyemi expressed confidence in the state government’s willingness to fulfill promises made to teachers during their previous engagements with teachers.

The Okemesi born-teacher thanked God for the successful elections. He appreciated all the leaders and members of the union for their support during the electioneering campaign.

His words: “I give all glory and adoration to the God Almighty for this allowing today to come to be. It’s the Lord’s doing and is marvelous in our sight.

“I’m so elated with the show of love by colleagues and members of NUT today. It’s indeed a new dawn in the history of our union”.

He promised the NUT members to justify the confidence repose in him through their massive votes.

Speaking with TopNews shortly after the insurrection, the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, (SUBEB), Ekiti State, Professor Femi Akinwumi lauded the union for a peaceful election process without any rancour. Describing it as the most free, fair and accessible election in the history of NUT in the state.

Akinwumi who thanked the Ekiti State governor for providing a conducive and enabling environment for the election and applauded journalists for their timely contributions and unbiased reportage in Ekiti.

Commenting on the development, the immediate past Chairman of NUT in state, comrade Daodu Bamidele Olaitan described the occasion as an opportunity to reflect on the progress of the union.

“This occasion provides us with an opportunity to reflect on our progress, our share commitments to the development and our collective achievements during this tenure. I thank God for granting all of us good health and traveling mercies.”

“We are indeed very grateful to your Excellency, Biodun Oyebanji for all the various giant strides recorded towards moving education forward in Ekiti particularly for the recruitment of teachers into both primary and secondary schools in the state”.

Comrade Daodu hinted that education is a vital component of any society and teachers play a crucial role in shaping the minds of future generations.
