The sprawling town and atmosphere of Ilogbo-Ekiti in Ijero Local Government Area of Ekiti State was full of joy, honour and thanksgiving as Alhaji Nureni Babatunde Olaseni was officially installed as the Bashorun of Ilogbo-Ekiti, a traditional honour bestowed in recognition of his character, humility, generosity and commitment to fostering unity among people.
The installation was performed by the Owalogbo of Ilogbo-Ekiti, His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Edward Ajayi, who described the new Bashorun as a man whose conduct, relationships and contributions had distinguished him for the prestigious traditional position. The monarch expressed confidence that Olaseni would deploy his experience, wisdom and people-oriented disposition towards the peace and development of the community.
Addressing the attendees during the ceremony, Oba Ajayi noted that the new chief had consistently demonstrated an ability to relate positively with people from different backgrounds and build lasting relationships. He urged him to see the traditional responsibility not merely as a title, but as an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of Ilogbo-Ekiti.
The installation attracted family members, friends, associates and old schoolmates, who took turns to celebrate Olaseni’s personality and achievements. Among them was Dr. Oludotun Adetunberu, Director-General, Ekiti State Homeland and Intelligence Agency, who described the new Bashorun as a long-standing friend known for his humility, friendliness and willingness to support others. Recalling their years together as members of the 1984 set of Christ’s School, Ado-Ekiti, Adetunberu said Olaseni had always carried himself with dignity and maintained strong bonds with his colleagues.
Adetunberu also recalled that Olaseni had, on several occasions, referred to himself positively as “Bashorun,” saying the aspiration had eventually become reality. He described the development as a testimony to positive thinking, perseverance and the grace of God. Similarly, Prince Oluwatosin Jegede, a prince of Ilogbo-Ekiti, thanked God for the successful installation, while Professor Ayo Arogundade congratulated the new chief and prayed for wisdom, strength and courage to discharge his responsibilities.
The celebration later moved to Ado-Ekiti, where a grand reception brought together members of various Christ’s School old students’ associations, friends and associates. The gathering featured music, dancing, laughter and tributes as guests celebrated Olaseni’s elevation and the enduring relationships he had built over the years.
Responding, Alhaji Olaseni expressed gratitude to God for the successful installation and appreciated his family, friends, associates and well-wishers who travelled and stood by him. He pledged to remain committed to service, unity and community development, while acknowledging the prayers and goodwill that accompanied his elevation.
One of the most emotional moments came from his mother, Alhaja Wosilat Olaseni who expressed immense joy at witnessing her son attain the traditional position while she is still alive. She described the occasion as a moment of fulfilment and thanksgiving, offering prayers for divine guidance, protection and a successful tenure.
The celebration ended on a note of thanksgiving and jubilation, with guests praying that the new Bashorun of Ilogbo-Ekiti would uphold the dignity of the traditional institution, promote peace and unity, and use his new position to contribute positively to the growth and prosperity of the community.
