The attention of the Management of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, has been drawn to a highly misleading, malicious and factually incorrect post being circulated online by a blogger, portraying that Ekiti State University has been in total darkness for the past ten (10) years.
EKSU in a statement made available to TopNews in Ado-Ekiti by the Head, Directorate of Information and Corporate Affairs, Adedoyin Ayobami (Mrs) said, “The University Management wishes to state in the strongest possible terms that this claim is not only made in bad faith but a clear misrepresentation of facts and a figment of the author’s flawed imagination intended to discredit the best state university in Nigeria”.

“While it is true that EKSU is not immune from the epileptic power supply by Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), the University Management has consistently put measures in place to mitigate this challenge. Alternative power sources, including generating sets and solar energy systems, are deployed to complement supply from BEDC. Through these proactive efforts, electricity is provided to offices, auditoria, laboratories, and other essential facilities across campus. If there had truly been no electricity for a decade, the University would not have been able to rise to stardom of being the best state university for three consecutive years.
“Furthermore, the Ekiti State Government, under the purposeful leadership of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, has taken deliberate steps to address the situation by extending electricity supply from the Independent Power Project (IPP) to EKSU. The process of linking the power line directly to the University’s main source is already underway.
It is also important to clarify that EKSU was established as a non-residential university. The majority of students reside in private hostels located in Iworoko-Ekiti and other surrounding communities. These hostels are owned and managed by private individuals. Any failure by landlords to provide adequate electricity to their tenants cannot reasonably be attributed to the University Management or the government of Ekiti State. However, students residing in the hostels within the university cannot cite blackout as a challenge, as adequate measures have been put in place to ensure their comfort and supply of electricity.
EKSU remains committed to providing a conducive learning and working environment for our students and staff. We urge the public, students, and alumni to disregard the post as fake news. The University Management will continue to engage all necessary bodies to ensure the stability and quality of our infrastructure, including power supply”, the state concluded.
