Hearts trembled on Sunday when an official of the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN), Ekiti State Command, was shocked on finding an abandoned baby at the entrance of the Government house, Fajuyi area of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital.
Eye-witnesses who spoke with TopNews on telephone claimed that the baby was about four months old and must have been abandoned by an unknown person who dumped it in front of the Government House.
The poor baby rapped with clothe was found around 8:50pm on Sunday. Eye-witnesses further said the piercing cry of the baby had attracted them to the area and led to its discovery.
“The loud cry of the baby caught our attentions and other passers by who moved alongside with me to uncovered the baby because we didn’t first know where the noise was coming from, but we kept on searching though we were afraid to move closer to the baby too”.
Confirming the incident in a conversation with TopNews, the Commandant of the Peace Corps, Ekiti Command, Patriots Mathew Okotie said one of his officers found the abandoned baby along Bank road, Fajuyi area of Ado-Ekiti.
Okotie further disclosed that immediately the baby was rescued by the PCN official, it has been taken to the Police Headquarters, on new Iyin road and from there to the Police clinic at Okesa for treatment.
He however said that the baby was rejected as they were directed to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) for a proper medical treatment and further documentation.
It was later confirmed that the baby was well received by the staff of the EKSUTH as they immediately swung into action by attending to the baby while adequate investigation about the baby continue.
