The All Progressives Congress (APC) State Congress Committee has inaugurated members of the various Local Government Congress Committees in Ekiti State, charging them to uphold loyalty, consistency, discipline and the supremacy of the party in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The inauguration, held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, followed an accreditation exercise conducted to ensure that only duly appointed and invited members participated in the ceremony.
Inaugurating the committees, the Chairman of the State Congress Committee, Pa. Alaba Abejide, extensively outlined the responsibilities entrusted to the members and urged them to approach the assignment with commitment and fairness.
While speaking on the zoning of party positions, Abejide stressed that zoning must not erode consideration for incumbent office holders who have demonstrated effectiveness, diligence, loyalty and commitment to the party.
He charged the committee members to go back to their respective local governments with three key messages: loyalty, consistency and the supremacy of the party.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the State Congress Committee, Rt. Hon. Karounwi Oladapo, highlighted the history and development of the party, stressing the importance of loyalty in sustaining the party’s unity and strength.
Oladapo described the Local Government Congress Committees as the intermediaries between the State Congress Committee and the Ward Congress Committees, urging them to effectively coordinate the activities of the Ward Congress Committees under their respective jurisdictions.
He said the assignment should be carried out in a manner that would promote the overall interest of the party and make all party leaders proud of their efforts.
In his goodwill message, Chief Jide Awe, encouraged the newly inaugurated committees to return to their respective local governments and diligently execute the assignments entrusted to them.
He particularly emphasised the need for party discipline, charging the committees to ensure that the principle of discipline remained central to their activities.
Another goodwill message came from Chief Mrs. Ronke Okunsanya, who cautioned the committee members against individuals who might attempt to outsmart the party or the committees in the course of the congress process.
She urged them to be vigilant and advised that whenever they encountered issues or directives that were unclear, they should seek clarification from the State Congress Committee rather than act on assumptions.
Responding on behalf of the Local Government Congress Committees, Hon. Apolola Richard said the members had accepted the assignment and pledged that they would not disappoint the party.
His acceptance speech was subsequently adopted by Chief Mrs. Kemisola Olaleye.
The State Congress Committee further charged the newly inaugurated members to conduct their assignment in accordance with the party’s guidelines while ensuring fairness, discipline, loyalty and respect for the supremacy of the party.
The newly inaugurated Local Government Congress Committees are expected to inaugurate, coordinate the Ward Congress Committees and facilitate the smooth conduct of the congress process across their respective local governments.
