Hope seems on the way for Men and Officers of the Peace Corps of Nigeria as the Bill Establishing the Corps was not part of the Bill rejected and returned back to the National Assembly for re-committal and further action by the immediate past president of Nigeria, General Muhammadu Buhari.
The development emerging from the Extraordinary Joint Meeting of the Peace Corps Council and the National Executive Council of the Peace Corps of Nigeria held in Abuja on Tuesday, indicated that the Nigerian Peace Corps Establishment Bill may have seen the light of the day even though the organization is yet to get official and former communication regarding the development surrounding the bill at the moment.
Addressing members of the Peace Corps Council and the National Executive Council, the National Commandant, Professor Dickson Akoh expressed optimism on the state of the Nigerian Peace Corps Bill, he described the current state of things as a seeming uncertainty which he is positive will be over sooner than expected.
He urged Men and Officers of the Corps to remain steadfast in the pursuit of enshrining the desired peace in our dear nation. “A dampened hope is not an all-hope-lost”. Akoh stated.
Prof. Akoh hinted that the development coming from the National Assembly indicated that the Nigerian Peace Corps Establishment Bill was never rejected by the former president, Muhammadu Buhari since all rejected bills have been taken to the National Assembly for re-committal and further action. “The organization has activated all possible contacts to get to the root of what transpired, untill then the very status of the bill remains uncertain.” he added.
It was however, disclosed that some amendment bills that were said to have been signed by the out gone president on the morning of his handing over day are yet to be officially announced, such bills was the CBN amendment Acts that the National Assembly conveyed an emergency seating to deliberate upon and eventually passed on the former President’s request. Possibilities therefore abounds that government bureaucracies and procedures may be responsible for the present unknown state of the bill. Nothing shall be hidden forever.
Akoh added that the Peace Corps of Nigeria will not be dampened by the happenings at the moment as he is positive that there is light at the end of the tunnel. He stressed the need for the organization to continue with her full activities nationally and international even as moves are being intensified to know the clear status of the Nigerian Peace Corps Bill.
