Ekiti State’s volleyball teams are gearing up for a historic moment as both the male and female squads prepare to compete in the National Volleyball League in Abuja. This marks a significant milestone for the state, with the male team making their debut in Division 2 and the female team returning to Division 1 after an impressive performance last year.
In 2024, under the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, the Ekiti female volleyball team made their league debut, securing a remarkable third-place finish and earning promotion to Division 1. This year, they aim to build on that success, while the male team joins the fray for the first time in nearly two decades, competing in Division 2.
The head coach of the Ekiti volleyball teams, Soji Farotimi, and the Volleyball Association Secretary, Olumide Bamidele both expressed gratitude to Governor Oyebanji for his unwavering support in promoting sports development in the state. “We are ready to represent Ekiti State with pride and aim to bring home the premier league title,” the coach declared. Special appreciation was also extended to Dr. Olusola Osetoba, the Technical Advisor on Sports Development, for her exceptional leadership in transforming the state’s sports landscape.

Both teams are set to depart for Abuja early Monday morning to join their counterparts from across the country in what promises to be a fiercely competitive tournament. Ekiti’s volleyball contingent is poised to make a strong impression and elevate the state’s standing in Nigerian volleyball.
