Publisher and Editor-In-Chief of the state of art online newspaper and online television who provides informations with a global reach and coverage, but with special emphasis on local news coverage, Topnews Global Media, comrade Demola Atobaba has emerged the Vice Chairman of the Online Media Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council, unopposed, with a pledge to promote unity, members’ welfare and professional development within the chapel.
Atobaba, who emerged at the chapel’s election held at the NUJ Secretariat, Oke-Bareke, Old Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti, where new executives were elected to pilot the affairs of the chapel.
Other new executives of the chapel include: Lawrence Ibitoye as Chairman and Dare Daniels as Secretary.
His comment at the event, the new Vice Chairman thanked members for the confidence reposed in the new leadership of the union and promised an inclusive administration that would carry all members along in decision-making.
Atobaba maintained that leadership should not be about occupying positions, but about creating opportunities for others and improving the welfare and professional capacity of members.
The new Vice Chairman also pledged to build on the achievements of the immediate past administration, stressing that the new executives would see themselves as servants of the members rather than leaders seeking to impose their decisions.
He said, “I want to appreciate you for the opportunity given to us to serve. Leadership is not by taking position alone but by bringing opportunities to others.
“We are going to bring a united chapel where members will be taken along. It won’t be a unilateral affair. We are going to prioritise training. The way the media is going now, we need professional development.
“We are going to make the chapel the best in the state. Be rest assured that your welfare will be prioritised and we are going to support the NUJ because we are the offshoot of NUJ.
“We are going to build on the legacy of the past chairman. Under our watch, we are serving and not leading.
“Our doors are open for advice and we are going to move the Union forward”.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Electoral Committee (NUJECO), Comrade Niyi Alade, dissolved the house, after which the outgoing Chairman, Comrade Ayodele Abere handed over the relevant documents to the electoral committee to commence the election process.
The outgoing Chairman of the chapel, Comrade Ayodele Abere, had earlier expressed appreciation to members for their support and confidence during his tenure, urging members to extend the same cooperation to the incoming administration to enable it to succeed.
“I want to appreciate every member of the chapel for your support, for the confidence reposed in me and for the enabling environment given to me over the years.
“I want to urge you to extend the same support to the incoming administration.”
Swearing in the new executives, the Chairman of NUJ in Ekiti State, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi urged the new executives to uphold the pillars of the constitution, tasking them to prioritise the welfare of the members for the growth and development of the chapel.
The secretary of the chapel, Dare Daniels, appreciated the leadership of the NUJ for providing the platform for members to participate in the affairs of the Union.
Daniels said the new executives were committed to contributing their quota to the development of the chapel and ensuring that the progress recorded at the state council was reflected in the Online Media Chapel.
