Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66.
Hassan’s death was reported on Sunday, August 23, 2026, with multiple Nigerian media organisations reporting the development. His daughter, Kira Taiwo, was seen in an emotional live video confirming her father’s passing.
The actor had been battling stage-four cancer, with his daughters, Kira and Lima Taiwo, recently appealing to medical professionals, hospitals and well-wishers for assistance.

The family had disclosed that doctors had informed them that chemotherapy could no longer be administered because of the advanced stage of his illness. They subsequently explored other treatment options in an effort to save the veteran actor.
News of his death comes just days after colleagues in the Yoruba film industry gathered in Lagos to pray for his recovery.
Several actors and industry figures have since begun paying tribute to the veteran, whose career spanned more than four decades and made him one of the most recognisable faces in Yoruba-language Nollywood.
Born in Ilaro, Ogun State, Hassan began his acting career in the early 1980s and later became a major figure in Nigeria’s film industry as an actor, producer and filmmaker.
His death represents a major loss to Nollywood, particularly the Yoruba film industry, where he was widely respected for his contribution to the growth of the sector.
Details of his funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
