General FC and Chief Warder FC have emerged as the finalists of the 2026 Ekiti State Correctional Centre Football Championship after impressive performances in the semi-final stage of the competition.
The championship, which is being held as part of efforts to promote sports, rehabilitation and hope among inmates, attracted five teams that registered for the competition.
The participating teams are Biggy FC, Senior Boy FC, General FC, Yellow Man FC and Chief Warder FC.
In the first semi-final encounter, General FC secured their place in the final after defeating Yellow Man FC through a penalty shootout following a draw at the end of regulation time.
The second semi-final also produced a dramatic penalty shootout, with Chief Warder FC overcoming Senior Boy FC to book their place in the championship final.
In the third-place match, Senior Boy FC bounced back strongly to defeat Yellow Man FC 6–1, earning a convincing victory to finish third in the competition.
The much-anticipated final between General FC and Chief Warder FC is scheduled to take place tomorrow Tuesday, August 11, starting from 11a.m.
The final is expected to attract officers, inmates, sports enthusiasts and other stakeholders, with the Chairman of Ado North LCDA, Hon. Olatokunbo Gbadamosi, expected and chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Ekiti State chapter, Qozeem Oladapo who both donated jersey and soccer boots for players of the Custodial Center will be on ground as Special Guests.
Speaking ahead of the final, the Director of Sports, Ado-Ekiti Custodial Centre, Mr. Fabusuyi Johnson, expressed appreciation to the Officer in Charge of the centre, Mr. Amele Olutope Adebayo, for his continuous support towards using sports as a tool to give hope, encourage rehabilitation and improve the wellbeing of inmates.
Mr. Fabusuyi also appealed to members of the public, sports lovers, organisations and well-meaning individuals to support the inmates by donating sports equipment and materials and sponsoring sporting activities at the Custodial Centre.
According to him, sustained investment in sports can provide inmates with positive outlets, build discipline and teamwork, and contribute to their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
With General FC and Chief Warder FC now set for the decisive encounter, attention has shifted to Tuesday’s final, where a new champion of the Ekiti State Correctional Centre Football Championship will be crowned.
