The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Oyebanj, has reiterated its commitment to the prioritization of the welfare of its workforce through positive reforms, enhanced welfare package and sustenance of salutary working environment.
He disclosed this while delivering his special address at the celebration of the 2026 Workers’ Day in Ado-Ekiti, where the various trade unions took turns for a match past, with the governor taking the salutes.
He promised that his administration would continue to invest in workers through infrastructural development, security of the workplace, regular capacity development, merit-based promotions and appointments across the public service.
The number one citizen of the state appreciated the workforce for what he described as their immense contributions and sacrifices. Adding that it is the working class that makes for the running of nations and the continuation of human civilisation.
He noted that the success of his administration’s policies and programmes is mainly because of workers’ dedication and commitment, pledging that his administration has prioritised prompt and regular payment of salaries, allowances, pensions and gratuities, and no worker is owed promotion arrears.
Ekiti State Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Kolapo Olatunde, anchoring his speech on the subject of the celebration decried the scaring security situation, pointing out that it calls for remorse and spiritual intervention through rigorous prayers.
He also suggested restructuring of the nation’s security architecture aimed at injecting new ideas into the system, which will in turn bring sustainable results to safeguard and protect lives and property on innocent Nigerians
Meanwhile, the State Chairperson, Trade Union Congress, TUC, Comrade Omotola Farotimi, informed the governor the state of the nation has made it imperative for living wage policies, social protection, access to credit for small businesses, skills that match real jobs.
The theme for this year’s celebration is” Insecurity, Poverty-Bane Of Decent Work”.
