Stage Set As SWAN Mark Annual Day Celebration

All is now set as the Ekiti State Chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), will on Sunday, February 1st, join other state chapters across the country, to mark the 2026 SWAN Day.

According to a statement made available to TopNews in Ado-Ekiti by the SWAN chairman, Quozeem Oladapo and the secretary, Bisi Ogunleye said, the day is set aside annually to mark the Anniversary of the establishment of the Association, with this year’s edition marking the 62nd year of its existence.

“State Chapters across the country are to organize different programmes and activities to mark the day”.

The release also added that, “In Ekiti State, members of the Sports Writers Association, SWAN will on Tuesday, 3rd February, embark on Facilities Tour to have first hand assessment of the renovation works at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium and the new Indoor Sports Hall which is under construction in Ado Ekiti as part of activities marking SWAN Day 2026.

“The tour by SWAN members will afford them the privilege to have adequate information on the State of Sports facilities with a view to informing the public on the efforts of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s Administration towards improving sports facilities in the state”.

Also, the Tour Guide for the day is the Technical Advisor to the Governor on Sports Development, Dr Olusola Osetoba.

“February event will hopefully signal the commencement of series of activities to be carried out by SWAN Ekiti State in subsequent months as the association strives to improve on its 2025 strides”.

In the meantime, SWAN, Ekiti State appreciates all partners and friends of the association the State who supported the Sports journalists one way or the other in 2025.

The body of Sports journalists commended the Technical Advisor on Sports, Dr Osetoba for the donation of 25 jerseys to SWAN in fulfillment of her promise in December.

While thanking the Technical Advisor for engaging at least 5 members of SWAN in different capacities as Media Managers, SWAN urged her not to forget other promises including allocation of an office to SWAN with a promise to ensure a more virile synergy with her office and its activities.
